The importance of marriage

Is there some rule to know if a marriage is going to work?
Morrie smiled, “Things are not that simple Mitch.”
I know.
“Still,” he said, ” there are a few rules i know to be true about love and marriage: If you don’t respect the other person you’re gonna have trouble. If you don’t know how to compromise you’re gonna have trouble. If you can’t talk openly about what goes on between you you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. And if you don’t have a common set of values, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. Your values must be alike.
And the biggest one of those values, Mitch?”
“Your belief in the importance of your marriage.”

  1. I loved this book! It says so many great things.

I just randomly found your blog, and I love the way you look at things. In your entry before this one (The Rut Called Marriage), most things in pur lives could look pretty rutty, even if you’re not married. It’s awesome that you’re not getting bogged down by it and that you’re just enjoying things!

  2. Never read it but that quote makes me want to pick it up.

That should be the only quote ever allowed in a “Congtulations, You’re Married” card.

  3. hey jammie.. a lil’ off topic..
